The goals of AOA's continuing medical education (CME) program are the continued excellence of patient care and improving the health and well-being of the individual patient and the public. Administered by the Council on CME, the CME program aims to facilitate the growth of knowledge, the refinement of skills, and a deepening understanding of the osteopathic medical profession.
All AOA members, other than those who are exempt, are required to participate in the CME program and to meet specified CME credit hour requirements for the 2007-2009 and 2010-2012 CME cycles. For detailed requirements, please see the CME Guide or check out the Frequently Asked Questions (PDF 22K).
The AOA Board of Trustees approved the following resolutions during its July 2008 meeting to assist specialists/subspecialists in obtaining AOA Category 1-A credit. In addition, the AOA approved those Category 1 CME Sponsors having recognized specialty and/or sub-specialty certificate holders numbering less than 250 members the ability to satisfy a portion of their AOA Category 1-A CME requirement using ACCME Category 1 credits. To qualify for AOA Category 1A (ACCME) one must be a member of the AOA, must be AOA/ABMS certified or board eligible. This policy will sunset in 2016. Additional information on how to request CME credits for this activity will be forthcoming.
