BIOMEA’s 11th Annual International Seminar, "Redefining Osteopathic Medicine Globally," was held on Sunday, November 1st, during OMED 2009. The poster session this year, co-hosted by the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA), had two separate categories for poster submissions: scientific-based and experience-based. The Student Competition winners in the experience category were: 2nd Place Outreach: Victoria Ridgeway, OMS, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Georgia Campus; and 1st Place Outreach: Kendall Blair, OMS, Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. The Student Competition research category winners were: 2nd Place Research: Precious L. Barnes, OMS, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine; and 1st Place Research: Diana S. Sepehri, OMS, Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine (CA).
The keynote address, “Promoting Health Equity in the Americas: The Perspective of the Pan American Health Organization,” was from Jon Andrus, MD, Deputy Director, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The program touched on international osteopathic research and education, work the Bureau is doing to expand international licensure, and ended this year with a very successful roundtable discussion from representatives who are involved in international and global health programs at various colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs).
The 12th Annual International Seminar will take place during the 2010 Unified Convention in San Francisco, on Sunday, October 24.
