Bureau on Federal Health Programs

Statement of Purpose

The Council on Federal Health Programs was established in 1960. In 2006, it's name was changed to the Bureau on Federal Health Programs. The Bureau has the responsibility for the profession’s contact with Congress and the various United States government departments, bureaus and agencies. The Bureau reports to the Board of Trustees and the House of Delegates.

Responsibilities and Functions of the Bureau on Federal Health Programs

  • The Bureau provides direction on Federal legislative and regulatory activities to the staff of the Department of Government Relations.
  • The Bureau studies and evaluates Federal health and education issues of interest to osteopathic physicians and those they serve.
  • The Bureau ensures that the policies of the Association and the directives of the Board of Trustees are followed and promoted.
  • The Bureau provides timely information on Federal legislative and regulatory issues to practice affiliates, divisional societies and other members of the osteopathic medical community.
  • The Bureau promotes the active involvement of osteopathic physicians and other members of the osteopathic medical community in grassroots activities that promote the interest of the community.

The Bureau provides a forum for the recognition of the AOA Osteopathic Heritage Health Policy Fellowship program and receives the papers of the Fellows at its September meeting.
