Recording of CME Specialty Credit Hours – 2007-2009 CME Cycle
AOA certification policy requires members to earn at least 50 hours of CME in their specialty each three-year CME cycle. The rules for applying CME to the 50 hours of CME specialty credit requirement are as follows for the 2010-2012 CME cycle:
- CME from osteopathic specialty colleges applies to the requirement on an hour-by-hour basis (unlimited).
- CME from osteopathic state societies and AOA CME Sponsors other than specialty colleges apply to the requirement on an hour-by-hour basis up to a maximum of 25 hours per cycle. Osteopathic state societies and AOA CME Sponsors other than specialty colleges will self-designate the number of hours that apply to each specialty, as in the past
Physicians should review their AOA CME Activity Report and contact the AOA Division of CME with any additional hours that may have not been applied toward their specialty.
Please contact the AOA Division of CME by calling (800) 621-1773, ext. 8262, e-mailing a copy of your current CME Activity Report to www.CME@osteopathic.org , or faxing a copy to (312) 202-8202 marking the courses that should be applied.
Additional information may be found in the 2010 March issue of the JAOA regarding the recording of specialty credit hours.
Jeffrey S. Grove, DO, is the chair of the Council on Continuing Medical Education.
