Morrison, DO, Vice-Speaker, at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago. Nearly 500 Delegates were in attendance to hear reports from each of six reference committees and act upon more than 200 policy resolutions. On July 16, delegates heard reports from each AOA Department and AOA Executive Director John B. Crosby, JD, delivered his Annual Speech to the House, which focused on the dedicated team of AOA staff members who work to provide services to members and facilitate growth within the osteopathic medical profession.
On July 17, AOA Past President Edward A. Loniewski, DO, delivered the Andrew Taylor Still Memorial Address, focusing on how the osteopathic medical profession has changed since he graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in the 1950s. Dr. Loniewski urged all Delegates to practice unity as DOs, earn respect by keeping their distinctiveness, and work together to expand OGME and promote the osteopathic medical profession.
Later that day, the Honorable Rear Admiral Regina Benjamin, MD, USPHS, the 18th Surgeon General of the United States, addressed members of the House of Delegates, providing a brief history of the Public Health Service as well as her goals for improving the nation's health. A member of the AOA, Dr. Benjamin also discussed the important role the osteopathic medical profession plays in caring for the nation's underserved patients. During the inaugural ceremony for the AOA's 114th President, Karen J. Nichols, DO, Dr. Benjamin saluted Dr. Nichols for becoming the first woman to serve as president of the AOA.
During her inaugural address, Dr. Nichols introduced her presidential theme of "Teamwork" and thanked Immediate Past President Larry A.
