AOA Mentor Exchange Program
The goal of the AOA Mentor Exchange program is to establish a mechanism for members of the osteopathic family to obtain guidance and coaching through the creation of a mentor relationship. A mentor relationship is a process whereby a mentor and mentee work together to discover and develop the necessary tools for a mentee to become an active and practicing member of the osteopathic medical community. This special relationship is a fundamental form of human development where one person invests time, energy, and personal know-how in assisting the growth and ability of another person.
NOTE: The Mentor Exchange Program requires an email address to create a profile.
BEING INVOLVED IN MENTORING IS A PRIVILEGE
FOR BOTH THE MENTOR AND THE MENTEE
As a mentor you are prompted to indicate your areas of expertise and in what capacity you would be willing to mentor (email, phone, face-to-face, etc.). This information is added to the AOA Mentor Database.
As a mentee you choose your areas of interest and how you would like to be mentored (email, phone, face-to-face, etc.). You are then able to search the mentor database for a mentor who matches your specific criteria. Upon choosing a potential mentor, you have the option of including a personalized note of introduction. The introduction can include questions or items of interest you would like the potential mentor to know about you.
Mentors are notified when a mentee has selected their profile. It is the responsibility of the mentor to make the initial contact within two weeks of receiving notification in order to establish a relationship. The AOA will be notified once a mentor relationship is initiated.
